our journey timeline - 

September 2020

Far away from home in Melbourne as a student, our founder,Amrit  found solace in the gentle flicker of a candle flame. There was something therapeutic about lighting a scented candle whilst studying or returning  order to his room.

March 2021

Growing up with a deep admiration for music composition, Amrit spent a lot of time curating playlists that strongly resonated with pivotal memories in his life whilst subconsciously lighting a candle. Many couldn’t comprehend how he’d associate scents to differing genres of music, hues of colour and textures. Little did he know that this anomalous blending of the senses stemmed from a rare neurological condition called synaesthesia that causes one sense to involuntarily unlock the other. 

June 2021

As his love for candles grew, so did the accumulation of glass candle jars as a result of his use. Research led him  to discover that only 18% of glass is recycled in Malaysia and the amount of electricity required to recycle one jar could power a television for 2.5 hours. 

September 2021

A stint with SEEdLab, a social enterprise incubator powered by Petronas and TATA Consultancy Services, in the field of agriculture helped him develop design thinking knowledge for the perfect product and evoked a sense of empathy to empower marginalised communities. 

December 2021

Wanting to indulge in luxury candles while doing good by the environment, Amrit conceived the idea for an eco-luxury candle brand that would offer an immersive and multi-sensorial experience. Eureka, Complemen+ was born!

April 2022

Realising that he couldn’t juggle both jobs, Amrit took the bold step of becoming a full time candlemaker. He began experimenting with all sorts of waxes, wicks, packaging and jar materials in his kitchen, making over 1000 candles in the process.

September 2022

He began selling his prototypes to friends and family at production cost for feedback before opening up Complemen+’s  first pop-up during M1nted (Malaysia’s first NFT conference) at Tiffin, The Yard.

February 2023

Complemen+ secured its  first big break, with a collaboration and stockist consignment with Pestle and Mortar Clothing.

August 2023

Complemen+ emerged among the winners of Shell Livewire’s Peninsular Accelerator and graduated from the coveted Founder Institute (based in Silicon Valley). Complement was also selected to be a part of  Blackbird’s (Australia’s largest venture capital firm) Giants programme and  among the top 50 companies in Malaysia to compete at Global Start-up World Cup.

November 2023

Sold out during their first online launch and secured funding from investors.
